International Council of Employers of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers (ICE of BAC)

ICE is the only International construction trade Association representing approximately 10,000 signatory masonry contractors who perform, brick, block, stone, tile, marble, terrazzo, cement masonry, plastering and restoration work.

Masonry Contractors of New Jersey proudly boasts the title of being the first Chapter of ICE. Our Association President, Michael Schmerbeck, is now serving as President of ICE and our Executive Director, Carol Ciesielski, serves on the Board of Directors.

ICE’s primary dealings are with the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers (BAC), other building trade unions, national construction associations and the federal government. Its core programs are labor/management relations and partnerships with the BAC on initiatives such as the Trowel Trades International Pension Fund, the Bricklayers International Health Fund and Construction Workers, Inc.

ICE and the BAC, together with the International Masonry Institute (IMI), work harmoniously on the management of joint industry promotion, training, safety, and educational activities and is the national voice for its constituent members.

International Masonry Institute (IMI)

The International Masonry Institute offers quality training for craftworkers, professional education for masonry contractors and free technical assistance to the design and construction communities. IMI is a strategic alliance between the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers (BAC) and their signatory contractors to promote quality masonry construction.

Team IMI consists of architects, engineers, construction managers, skilled craftworkers and instructors, offering what no other group can: expertise in training, craftsmanship, design, installation and marketing. That means buildings built by union craftworkers and contractors get built the right way.

The Flynn Center in Maryland and regional centers offer training at all career levels, from apprentice to supervisor, in all the masonry crafts: brick/block, tile, terrazzo, marble, stone, restoration, plaster and cement, plus new products and systems.

International Masonry Training Education Foundation (IMTEF)

The International Masonry Training and Education Foundation provides training, certifications and continuing education programs to the members of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers.

These programs begin with pre-job training and training for apprentices, and continue throughout a craftworker’s career in brick, stone, tile, marble, terazzo, pointing-caulking-cleaning, refractory, plaster, cement and mosaic work. New cladding systems and installation technologies are also emerging, and IMTEF provides advanced training for these opportunities as well.

IMTEF is funded through a grant from the International Masonry Institute, a labor-management organization created by the members of BAC and the contractors who employ them.

Additionally, the Directory is sent in response to the many requests we receive for referrals for masonry bidders and suppliers and serves as a great resource to connect with other colleagues in our industry.
