There’s Snow Day like Masonry Day

On December 3, 2019 the weather may not have been perfect but our Masonry Day & Rainscreen Expo, packed with education, networking & good food, certainly was.

NJDOL and Attorney General Issue Guidance to Employers on “No Match” Letters

Last March, the U.S. Social Security Administration (SSA) began sending tens of thousands of employers  “Employer Correction Request” and “no-match” letters when some of their employees’ names and Social Security numbers in their Form W-2s didn’t match what’s on file with the SSA.

On March 9, 2020 Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal,  DOL and Workforce Development Commissioner Robert Asaro-Angelo and Division on Civil Rights Director Rachel Wainer Apter issued  guidance for employers:

Six bills were signed into law by Governor Murphy in January 2020 to crack down on misclassifying workers as independent contractors and other wage and hour violations:

NJ Labor Department Issues Stop-Work Order for Wage Violations, Misclassification of Workers

TRENTON – A subcontractor on a construction job in Jersey City, who paid some workers by check but failed to take out deductions or keep payroll records, was issued a stop-work order by the Department of Labor and Workforce Development, which now has the authority to stop an employer from working on a job site when significant pay, benefits, or other workers’ rights violations are documented.

2020 SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500

Ron Atzert, owner of American Masonry Corporation and one of Masonry Contractors of New Jersey’s Officers was a judge for the SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500 Competition on February 5th during the 2020 World of Concrete/World of Masonry event. Steve West, owner and President of American Art Stone, donated cast stone engraved plaques for new signage above the Association’s Office door and the Bricklayers Local 5 Union Hall door at their offices in Bordentown.

Joe Mizeski with Diener Brick donated one cube of brick to the IMI/BAC Fairfield Training Center.  Joe worked with  Bob Alessandro to match the existing brick for an opening around a new garage door, after being installed at a lower height.…

ANNUAL ICE MEETING

The 2019 Annual ICE Meetings were held on October 29 – 30 in Washington, DC.  Both days were filled with information on many topics affecting our industry today.  Attendees walked away much more informed than when they first sat down on topics such as new technologies, silica evaluation and respirator programs, safety and ergonomics training, avoiding water infiltration claims through systemic approach and more.

National Apprentice Week

November 11-15 was National Apprentice Week.  On Tuesday, November 12th BCIT held their Construction  Apprenticeship Expo for BCIT students and Burlington County Middle School students.  Representatives from all  Construction Technology fields in Burlington County were on site with displays and job opportunity information, including the BAC ADC of NJ who had a hands on bricklaying demonstration. BAC Local #5 Apprentice Instructor Ren Engelhardt and Field Representatives Leon Jones, Jr., Lynn Canfield & Mario Cerrito, Jr. were on site to answer questions and assist with the demonstrations.
