International Council of Employers of
Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers (ICE) ICE Website
Masonry Contractors of New Jersey was the first chapter of the International
Council of Employers of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers (ICE).
Our Association President, Michael Schmerbeck, is on the ICE Executive
Committee and our Executive Director, Carol Ciesielski, is on the
ICE Board of Directors.
ICE is a construction trade association of union masonry contractors,
representing approximately 15,000 signatory masonry contractors
in dealings with the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied
Craftworkers (BAC), other building trade unions, national construction
associations and the federal government. Its core programs are labor/management
relations and partnerships with the BAC on initiatives such as the
Trowel Trades International Pension Fund, the Bricklayers International
Health Fund and Construction Workers, Inc.
ICE and the BAC, together with the International Masonry Institute
(IMI), work harmoniously on the management of joint industry promotion,
training, safety, and educational activities.
Further, ICE acts as a national voice for its constituent members
and deals with various governmental agencies in the areas of health,
safety and industry wide codes and standards. ICE also interacts
in concert with other national construction trade associations in
areas of common interest.

International Masonry Institute (IMI) IMI Website
The International Masonry Institute (IMI) is a joint labor/management
program of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers
(BAC) and signatory contractors represented by the International
Council of Employers (ICE).
BAC is the oldest continuous union in North America and represents
more than 100,000 skilled trowel trades craftworkers throughout
the U.S. and Canada.
IMI's aggressive Market Development/Technical Services program promotes union masonry
and BAC craftsmanship to building decision makers - owners, developers,
architects, engineers and contracting officials - through a variety
of approaches that include trade shows, craft specific promotional
events, project tracking, educational programs for architects
and engineers and more.
With its own staff of architects, engineers and construction
experts, IMI offers numerous technical services for BAC signatory
contractors. In addition, Contractor College gives IMI contractors
a competitive edge with technical information and business management
strategies.
A training network that includes the IMI National Training Center,
the only national training institution for professional masons,
and 12 satellite training centers allows IMI instructors to keep
up on the latest training information and protocols to ensure
consistently high standards for BAC craftworkers on all levels,
from pre-apprentice to foremen.
This combination of training, technical and marketing services
offered by the IMI gives our Contractor Members and other BAC
signatory contractors a distinct competitive advantage.

Membership Directory
A Membership Directory is updated and published yearly, following
the renewal of dues in July. The Directory is forwarded to various
general contractors and architects and is distributed at trade
shows throughout the year. Additionally, the Directory is sent
in response to the many requests we receive for referrals for
masonry bidders and suppliers.
The Association actively promotes its members!
TEK Manual for Concrete Masonry Design
and Construction
All Contractor members receive this complete manual by the NCMA
of facts on designing and building with concrete masonry and
related concrete units.
TEK updates are the continuing series of TEK Notes that provide
discussions and specific technical provisions regarding materials.
ALL CONTRACTOR, ARCHITECT AND ENGINEER members receive the new TEK updates from our
Association as they are provided to us by the NCMA.
